Mummyfinger! The key to getting people to read my stuff again is probably to write every day and to be amusing. I'll try that.

The power went off at work today. It was out for about an hour. Want to know how to completely hobble a tech services department? Knock out the power! I ran out of things to do about three minutes into the 90-minute long outage, so I ended up asking other staff members in my department if they had anything for me to do. So I ended up peeling security strips off DVDs, a task so obnoxious that the paid staff avoid it and the volunteers refuse to do it. The process involves Goo Gone, aluminum foil, and alcohol. The smell is cloying, and the potential for injury is high. Usually I walk away with a paper cut or two, but today I sliced my middle finger open on a CD hub. I bled through a band-aid in about 5 seconds, so one of my co-workers wrapped the cut in gauze. Now I can show you what it looks like to be flipped off by a mummy.

I just took off my Mummyfinger and thoroughly disgusted my husband. It wasn't THAT gross.

Also, I do not wish to see footage of the Illinois basketball team's loss to Ohio State any more. Of all the teams that could have beat us, why Ohio State? I hate Ohio. Maybe I don't hate Ohio State as much as I hate Duke, but still...ugh. Yes, I'm an Illini basketball fan. You can't live here and not be an Illini basketball fan. I was really hoping we'd make it through the season undefeated, but I guess it was not to be. I don't see the point in losing--I don't really think you learn anything from it, contrary to what people have been saying all season. I'm also not a fan of underdogs, and I think that good teams should do their best to embarrass lesser teams by not even giving them a chance. Give me a good ass-kicking any day--upsets do nothing for me.

I'm going to go cleanse and disinfect my work-related injury. Typing is taking me too long anyway because the tip of my middle finger is numb, and I'm making too many idiotic mistakes that I have to correct.  ¶ 3/07/2005 06:16:00 PM
